Folengandros Hotels
Folengandros Hotels The capital town of Chora is more than a town, a monument of perfection nestled at the edge of the cliff, blue and green paving states outlined, seems to continue endlessly. Most of the town is merged with the walls of a medieval castle. The prettiest sight is that of cute houses with wooden balconies abounding in geranium blooms in various hues. Development as taken place outside the town leaving this town and the castle untouched and unadulterated in beauty. The prominent events include the parade of the church icon, the Virgin, through the streets amidst much pomp and splendor during Easter Sunday. The majestic church of Panagia, dominates Chora from the highest point in town, built on the foundations of the ancient town. A boat ride along the northern coast will reveal cliffs rising into height of 250m. You might be misled into going further and not alighting at this point if you aren’t aware of Chora. Karavostasis along the harbor is dotted with small restaurants, a hotel or two, some shops and a small little park, which are not much to go by. Bus services on the island are limited to connections between the port of Caravostasi and Chora and the village of Ano Meria to the northwest. The best beach on the island, Agali, on the southwest coast is accessible on foot from the main road to Ano Meria , about 20 minutes walking. There are taverns at the beach, marvelous fine sand and excellent swimming in crystal-clear water. Tourist services can be found at the main port or in Chora. If you need to change currency; you will have to stop by one of the small travel offices in the town, as there is yet to be a bank established on this island. If you enjoy walking and natural tourism, you can explore a great deal of Folegandros, and you will come to love and appreciate its raw, rugged beauty and its traditional way of life. |
